Today's Moment of Weirdness:
Got email from my brother about the neice appearing in a musical this weekend. Normal family business & whatnot it was (well, as normal as things can be in this strained and disjointed excuse for a family). But then at the end, for the first time I've ever seen, he signed with his initials, all lower case & shit.

These lines get quoted all the time. Lots of posters have been printed and whatnot. The words are widely known, frequently quoted with approval, and just about universally ignored. It's a sad sentiment, I guess. It's true enough on the face of it, and quoted often enough, that it could be dismissed as a platitude. But that would be a mistake, I think. It talks about a place of acceptance that's maybe easy to understand (sort of) and real in a quite direct way. It's one of those plain truths that need elaboration, if at all, only in their effects, but not in the reasons behind them.

Finally got some time to work on the quilt. It took a long time to outline all the veins on the wings. Can't say I'm a huge fan of applique, although I don't regret trying it. The wings are made of a three-layer sandwich of organdy with black crinoline over the top, then a layer of water-soluble stablizer.
