I'm just back from my first FC show in a year. Damn, the funk was so much the goodness.
Weird, though. The room was effing PACKED for the opening band, which was your worst nightmare of a lame 70s/80s garage cover group, complete with fog machine -- no shit. I tried to arrive in time to miss them, having read the description, but I caught the last couple stale old tunes. I was meeting friends, and that's just how it worked out.
The room cleared about halfway during a set of some decently inventive blues from Fox Street All-Stars. I'd seen them before and liked the musicianship, but the showmanship was somewhere between disappointing and embarrassing. Still, they were worlds better than the lameoid opening act of Postal Clerks' Night Out. I figure the initial crowd was the family & neighbors of the fogeys in the band, but their bed time came and that was that. Not a terrible thing, as we inherited a ringside table.
The hipster faithful did represent somewhat for Filthy Children, probably alerted by twitter that the awful lead-in junk was done. Or maybe they just finally got outta the traffic rolling down from the ski slopes at that hour. The funk was worth every scrap o' that though. Every scrap. Y'all should come out for a show.
