All Background Blocks

All background blocks are assembled. They're easy in that only two pieces are involved in each one. They're hard in that I had to stitch that curve, which was a bother. On balance, probably easy. But I like them.

Color isn't coming through especially accurately due to the flash, and I can't get a good angle to capture the whole thing. (And here I should probably acknowledge the benefit of having extra empty rooms sitting there ready to be filled with quiltage, as much as I've complained about inability to get moved outta here.) The sides will flop over the sides of the queen-size mattress. Overall, the measurement will be 90 inches square.

The background blocks are laid down as much at random as I could do. I confess I was trying to maximize difference -- or distance between the quarter-circles. To me, maximizing difference includes occasionally breaking from the rule by bunching the quarter-circles. Now if only I knew a math whiz willing to help me with a formula for the maximum variation within the limits of contiguous identically asymmetrical patterns. And to toss in a wrinkle, the pattern includes four monocolor blocks.

Update

After the long break for the work/fun trip to SF (whee!!) I'm thinking about more "gathered" less scattered pattern of quarter-circles. I still don't want to just orient them all the same so it's a plain old pattern, but the self-consciously random arrangement had an overly jangly feel for me. So here I'm looking for a calmer but still free-form arrangement. Not sure whether or not I'm there yet.
