Turns out that the little turd who rear-ended me did NOT have a valid insurance policy at the time of the accident, contrary to his representations to me and to the officer. Whee. Off to alert the Denver Police of that fact, so maybe his ticket can get a little heavier.
And ya know, I do wonder whether they've discovered the unpaid speeding ticket from Grand Junction that seemed to be worrying tardboy before the officer showed up. Cops do enjoy a good bench warrant experience after all, and who am I to deny them their fun?
I tried to make it easy on him, since he seemed contrite, immediately accepted responsibility, and he had evidence of insurance. He was wanting not to call the cops, but I went ahead to get the police report number for the insurance people and to avoid any sort of issue due to leaving the scene of an accident and all that. I never considered not calling the cops, and I will never ever consider that again, whatever the other person says. Fuck trust.
