What is up with my old friend? Every year he & his wife host this 'punkin massacre' where their friends bring the kids and carve jack o' lanterns. This couple, my age or so, are childless by choice, but their sibs are heavily populated, so the event is always a rollicking mess of juveniles shooting pumpkin seeds around the room. We used to take the yahoos when they were of that age -- and for a few years after -- but by now I am so over that. SO over it.

So I just declined the invitation, for the second year in a row. He was stunned. And audibly seriously bummed. Disbelieving. I've known this guy since jr. high. He knows what he's dealing with. What the fuck, ya know?

Gonna make a point of getting together with them, and none of their neices & nephews, soon.

eta: I mentioned the event to the once-wife, and she may attend. More power to all of 'em.
